There's no such thing as the perfect trip. The same way with each second passing we are changing and evolving, mentally and physically. But over the years I've found some things that when present, make travel much more enjoyable. One of these ingredients is spontaneity.
But it's also very subjective. One can be spontaneous in different ways when traveling. This trip was one I remember as being unbelievably fun because of the freedom to be flexible and spontaneous.
5 quick days exploring a new city can be extremely daunting but besides a couple of neighborhoods and restaurants I wanted to check out, there was nothing on the schedule.
Night markets in Taipei should be considered a national treasure. They do them very well. Uncomfortably humid, too many people squeezed into gauntlets of food and trinket stalls, cheep prices and very delicious food. Though a little distance from Taipei city center, I recommend Keelung Night Market for the best of all of the above.
I thought a light body with a quick auto focus would would be best for this trip so I decided on the Contax T2. When the weather is expected to be humid and gross the last thing I want to lug around is a big medium format camera. Also wanted a flash for possible night time shots.
My Contax T2 started dying this trip. The flash would not always flash when triggered and the viewfinder info was not displaying correctly. Both seem like common malfunctions of a 30 year old camera, it's just sad when it happens to you 🥺 Having your camera bust while traveling is pretty much my biggest fear while traveling(besides having your camera stolen), but all in all it’s not the end of the world. It’s just that my shitty photos got shittier.
