Travel Notes
Myanmar is one of my favorite places to travel and study travel. It is welcoming, enchanting, inspiring, and awakening. To say I am in love with the Burmese people would be an understatement. They constantly surprise me with their kindness, cleverness, and resilience.
From the first time I visited in 2013 I could not wait to visit again. Myanmar(and India) do that to you. Everywhere you travel after you visit these special places is incomparable. In 2016 I booked my second trip, planning a one week journey to Yangon and Ngapali(Rakhine State). I figured I would take the first few days to get comfortable in Yangon, a place I visited during my first visit to the country, then venture out to Ngapali.
It took me a couple of days to acclimatize myself. I remember feeling uncomfortable the first two days. Living in Japan can make you soft. A little too soft if you ask me ^^ Walking around my neighborhood and hitting up some favorite eats would completely exhaust me.
I quickly get tired of the city life and arranged transportation to Thandwe for the following day. Thandwe is the closest town to Ngapali beach, approximately 6km away. I befriend a small group of Brits, working as humanitarians for the United Nations in Yangon. We spend 2 days chatting beach side.
One day I venture out the whole day exploring small fishing villages and return home with a new tattoo.
Thank you Burma.
