I always joke with people that I was born in Canada but my hometown is Fukuyama Hiroshima.
My family has very good family friends living there, so it was my first destination when I first visited Japan in 2000. Over the past 20 years I've visited almost annually.
Fukuyama is a typical medium sized Japanese city of just under half a million people. Originally the town was planned to be centered around the main Fukuyama station, in recent 20ish years the city has spread out to big box stores and convenient shopping plazas outside of the city center. This has created a ghost town effect for the downtown core, which is good for me because I like run down things but bad for everything else including the local economy. I'm always excited to explore this old deserted downtown area whenever/wherever I travel domestically because there are so many diamonds-in-the-rough as they say. Fukuyama is no exception. If you are even in the area waste no time and head to Jiyuken, a local institution serving classic Japanese izakaya fair. Only counter seating.
I had been using the Olympus Myu around Tokyo for a couple of years and thought I would bring it out on the road with me. People lust over the Myu II but I personally recommend the original Myu for a fraction of the cost and not much quality sacrifice.
Looking back at the photos now they are not amazing but they are not bad. If anything, they are a good match for acceptable standards. Reminds me of old family photos where the dad was not a camera otaku ^^
