Travel Notes

After what felt like an eternity of neighborhood isolation we set out to visit family in Western Japan for a long weekend. The recently redeveloped Shinsoji Zen Garden and Museum was so beautiful in the fall foliage. Within the complex is a spaceship like looking building with a facade of wooden cypress shingles created by sculptor Kohei Nawa and Sandwich Architects. More info here.

The next day we ventured to the seaside town of Onomichi. A walkers paradise with a decent seawall, energetic old shopping arcade, and huge hillside residential area with great views of the city. 

After a quick morning stop in Kurashiki, Okayama we picked up our rent a car to drive through the mountains of Okayama. Stopping by the Yoshida Ranch to pet the cows and fill up on delicious cheese is a must if you are in the area. 

We spent the night at a ryokan in Yubara Onsen, where there is a communal public bath out in nature. YES.
